Victory on Two Fronts

Local author and baseball historian Scott Longert's newest book:  Victory on Two Fronts: the Cleveland Indians and Baseball Through the World War II Era was just published.  The book chronicles the years between 1942; team morale was pretty low because Bob Feller had enlisted   and Lou Boudreau, the teams' new player-manager, had neither coaching nor managing experience, and 1948;  they won the World Series. Along the way, they became the first team to break the color barrier by signing Larry Doby and Satchel Paige.

Longert has written 6 books on Cleveland baseball history from the Civil War era through the mid-twentieth century. He will speak at the Library on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at 7pm.  He will have books available for purchase.  This program  is free and seating is limited please register at
